Day 5 of Hospice

It is very late in the evening Sunday.  Mom continues to get weaker and weaker.  We now have a hospice nurse with her 24/7.  The nurse will help manage mom's symptoms of discomfort and agitation.  Hopefully having someone there overnight will help my dad get a better nights sleep.
Thank you so very much to all of you who have posted such amazing comments on this blog.  I have read them to my mom.  They bring us all comfort in knowing how much you love her and how she has touched your lives.

  5. Please tell Kathy how much her faith has encouraged us and her walk with Jesus is an example to all of us. Lives are changing because of her love of the Lord. We are praying for peace that passes all understanding for you and the family. May GOD's love surround you throughout this difficult time. Geri & Jim

  6. I write this with such a heavy heart. You've been like a mom to all of us Lynbrook girls. You watched us grow from children into teenagers. As teenagers, you helped us learn some tough lessons, with a firm hand but loving heart (see, we all turned out ok!). As women you have celebrated our joys and let us lean on you in sorrow. All with grace and dignity. You have left your children/grandchildren a great legacy. You can go in peace and know that you have accomplished great things on this earth. Your daughter is one tough cookie! We love her and will be there for her, just as you have been for us. Until we meet again...All my love and prayers, Emily

  7. Kathy, you are in my prayers constantly. You have been such a wonderful, supportive, loving, generous part of our lives for so long. I hope you know how much you are loved. You have shown us by example how to live and love fully. Thank you for always loving me and showing me grace and kindness even when I was a young punk without a clue. I have always been inspired by your quiet, constant faith and know you will be celebrated in Heaven as you sit at the feet of Jesus. It is comforting to know that I will see your smiling face again one day and you will be there to welcome me home.
    With much love,
    Carole

  9. Good Morning Tani Family - I texted Mandy last night and asked her to give you our love and hugs and kisses and to let you know you have been in our thoughts and prayers constantly. Bob and I are so fortunate that we came down and had such a wonderful visit with all of you in August - that's what I keep remembering and treasuring that time. Of course we enjoyed the past couple visits, but August was so special. Rob and Caity send their love and are sorry they couldn't make it on one of our trips to see you; just know how special you are to them. We all keep remembering the good times - all the family gatherings at your house up here, the New Year's Day celebrations and of course, the fact that you came to Maui for Caity & Kevin's wedding. Our love and prayers to all of you. We love you Kathy, you will continue in our thoughts and prayers forever! Bob & Sandy Nolan

  10. Dear Kathy, Rick and Mandy,
I know that my Jesus, the Good Shepherd, is there with you all even as I write these words. His promise is sure, that He will NEVER leave us or forsake us. I have personally seen this to be true in the lives of those who love Him, as surely you do Kathy. He has promised though we walk through the valey of the shadow of death we need not be afrtaid for He is with us. Thank you, dear Shepherd of life and love and peace, for your presence in the Tani home right now, for the Spirit of rest and peace that abides there. Though many could make such a claim to always be by our side, and some well intentioned souls will try, only one in heaven or on earth could keep that claim. It is Jesus the master of eternity, the giver of life and living and He is there in the very room with you now. My prayer is that this thought will give you HIs rest and His peace in the coming days and hours. I know it does and ever shall for me. Pastor Scott Koop

  11. Kathy,
Words can't express the pain & emptiness I feel in my heart. I just can't come to grips with the fact that I won't see you again.

You are the glue that held out family together. At this time of year, I think back on Christmas' past. Some of my fondest Christmas memories were spent with you & Rick at the many Christmas Eve parties that you hosted. I love you for that.

You were always there for me when I needed you the most. I love you for that. It truely saddens me that I couldn't be there for you.

I remember after Uncle Harry got sick, I needed to move back to the bay area. I was a frightened young man that wasn't ready to live alone. You & Rick opened your home to me & allowed me to live with you until I grew up enough to cope on my own. I will never forget that kindness. I love you for that.

I love cooking for my family today because you & Rick always made it look like such fun. All of us sitting around the Kitchen counter eating, laughing & enjoying each others company. I love you for that.

You are the kindest, most loving, energetic people I've had the pleasure of knowing. I love you for that.

You will always be on my mind, in my heart & in my prayers.

    I love you Kathy.

    Your "Little" Brother, Ken

  12. Family,
I too echo Pastor Scott's comments above. I was recently asked to give an answer why I am a Christian...a follower of Jesus Christ...My answer was simple: HOPE! Right now I pray that you will all have the great Hope that only Jesus can provide...Hope is what makes me not worry about tomorrow, for today has enough worries of it's own. Hope that everything WILL be okay. Hope that one day all we will all be together without pain and sickness. May you all be comforted in Jesus' HOPE during these difficult days! Pastor Chad Osborn

  13. Dear family,
Sending our love and prayers from Colorado. We are thinking of you soooo much. It is comforting to read all the wonderful stories and loving thoughts everyone has expressed in this blog. So many people are thinking of you, Kathy. We are all recalling the impact you have had on our lives. I hope you can see just how much you are loved. It makes me realize that we need to do more of this...to tell all the people we love, just how much they mean to us. And do this alot more often. A valuable lesson for us all.
We are comforted by hearing of the helpful care of your Hospice nurses. Tell them we are praying for them also.
You are in God's never-ending care and grace.
    Love you always,
Your Sis Linda, and Al too.
